Tom Manus is a freelance travel writer based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He travels and writes with his wife, Kristi Flick Manus. Together they enjoy exploring nature, history, and culture by road trips on backroads and two-lane highways. In addition, they like to travel with their senior Shih Tzu, Madibelle Mabel, and look for dog-friendly ideas for articles. Tom and Kristi believe spontaneous travel without agendas leads to invaluable experiences. For example, a peaceful picnic lunch alone with a grazing elk herd in -18° temperatures inside Glacier National Park, finding a path unknown to tourists that resulted in standing in solitude on an Iceland glacier and arriving as the first hikers of the season, then watching scores of moose meander to a lake below Maine’s Mt Katahdin. Along with international travel, Tom has visited 48 states, with only Hawaii and the elusive Rhode Island remaining. He is the co-author of Secret Wisconsin, which will be published in the fall of 2023 by Reedy Press, writes for Travel Awaits, and, together with his wife, won the Midwest Travel Network’s 2022 Rising Star Award.
