While the charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea is already very dog friendly, Hofsas House Hotel takes it a step further. With their popular Tail-Wagging Package, your pups are treated like royalty. We arrived to two dog beds by the fireplace, keepsake toys, treats, water bowls and even a welcome letter from Hofsas’ pet concierge, Tank. Less than a mile from the beach, Hofsas House also provides you with specialty dog shampoo and cloths for Fido to freshen up after a run on the sand. Offering several dog-friendly options, Hofsas’ friendly staff will assist you in the perfect itinerary for both pups and humans. While many hotels have a strict One Dog policy, Hofsas welcomes travelers with two four-legged friends in tow.

2. Heathman Hotel Portland, Oregon
The upscale Heathman Hotel offers pet owners over-the-top perks for just $45 per stay of any length. All 151 rooms are pet friendly and offer dogs Eco Nap beds, bowls, treats, a plush dog toy, and 100% human-grade food from a pet room service menu. The Heathman also provides a list of dog walkers, veterinarians, pet acupuncture, psychics, Reiki practitioners and more to cover your pet’s needs. With a location close to the park, a long walk under tall trees on a soft lawn makes this one of the best pet-friendly hotels ever.

3. Cypress Inn, Carmel, California
Carmel-by-the-Sea offers a beautiful beach where dogs can run free and more than 25 hotels that cater to all four-legged friends. The streets are lined with water bowls and lots of canines are seated with their best friends at outdoor cafes. Many Carmel restaurants offer doggie menus with kibble, biscuits, grilled chicken and more. Check out Carmel Plaza with its drinking fountain just for dogs called the Fountain of Woof. Cypress Inn, co-owned by animal champion Doris Day, goes a step further with a ‘Yappy Hour,’ a comfy pet bed in the room, dog sitters, doggy turndowns with special treats, and more. Look for doggie pick-up bags and a spot to wash off your pet after the beach in the courtyard. At check-in, the hotel will hand you a list of fur-friendly establishments.

4. Hotel Vintage, Seattle, Washington
You don’t have to travel with your pet to enjoy a stay at the Hotel Vintage Seattle, but it’s nice to know that all Kimpton Hotels are pet friendly. And that doesn’t just include dogs. “Furry, feathery or scaly family members, no matter their size, weight or breed” are welcome to stay at no extra charge. Pet amenities at Kimpton Hotels include cozy beds, dining bowls, special treats, a list of pet-friendly businesses near the hotel and a special door hanger alerting staff to your pet’s presence. Pet sitting and massages are also available at many of their hotels.

5. The Perry Hotel & Stock Island Marina Village, Key West, Florida
The Perry Hotel & Stock Island Marina Village in the Florida Keys is crazy about dogs! The gorgeous rooms at the Perry are pet friendly, but it goes beyond that. At almost any hour, dogs can be found in the lobby, the outdoor bars, restaurants, marina office and docks. The staff lavishes love on your four-legged pals, offering them treats and bowls of fresh water. Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen, the onsite restaurant, is happy to grill up a piece of chicken or a small burger for your dog. For boaters, this is a fantastic option. In addition to the hotel’s open love for your pets, there are three dog parks that hotel and marina guests can use for playtime. While visiting, we needed a pet sitter for the day, and Hannah, one of the marina staff, volunteered to keep our dog, Zach, while we took off to the Dry Tortugas. This exceptional property is an excellent stop for boaters and visitors to the Key West area.

6. Cosmopolitan Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas is a dog-friendly city and the Cosmopolitan Hotel welcomes dogs of any size and breed in their rooms and property. Rated one of the top 10 hotels in the world by Conde Nast Traveler in 2017, the Cosmo gifts each dog with a PupJoy box filled with toys, healthy treats, chews, and a collapsible water bowl. While the resort does not allow pets in the casino, pool, fitness center, restaurants, and bars, they do have two dog runs on the property. There is an extra charge for pets and guests must complete a dog registration agreement before checking in.

7. La Posada De Santa Fe Resort and Spa, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Situated on six acres, the La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa consists of ground floor adobe bungalows, created in Pueblo revival architecture. Since Santa Fe is a place where people come to enjoy Southwestern art, all the public spaces at the La Posada are filled with primarily local art. The La Posada’s exterior gardens make this hotel a dog lover’s paradise. The grounds are landscaped beautifully and are adorned with sculptures making strolling the perfect way for you and your pet to either begin the day or end it. If the grounds are not enough for your daily dog walk, just minutes away is the center of Santa Fe and the historic Plaza. Each adobe bungalow features a private walled-in patio so your dog can come in and out at their leisure. It really is a home-away-from-home and a comfortable setting for you and your canine kid.

8. Stowe Mountain Lodge, Stowe, Vermont
As much as I would like to take my dog Kona on my travels, I’ve been hesitant to stay in pet-friendly hotels. Although I love my dog, I don’t want to stay in a room that is designated ‘pet friendly’ and smells like another dog. My fears were put aside when I checked into Stowe Mountain Lodge in Vermont with my dog for the weekend. Our Ridgeline Suite was in the same immaculate condition as any other room I have ever stayed in at the resort. No smell of pet here. There were wonderful amenities waiting for Kona as well — a bed, food bowls, treats and a new toy. They even included some ‘bath spritz’ to keep him (and the room) smelling fresh!
