Luxury travel is more popular than ever. There has been a shifting change in travel as multigenerational travel becomes more popular. Parents are looking to relax during family vacations, oftentimes with their parents. They want luxury and relaxation while the kids have fun and adventure, making for a great family vacation. Everyone’s happy.
This is why Cozumel Island, in the Mexican Caribbean, has been one of America’s favorite getaway destinations for decades. Located just off the Yucatan Peninsula in the Riviera Maya region, it’s convenient to get to by ferry, flight, or cruise. Famous for its relaxed vibe, I understand why. Especially in your own private beachside cabana.
The Cabana Beach
Looking at the deep cobalt ocean from my luxury cabana, I was about as relaxed as you could get. This is what luxury travel is all about. The palm trees swayed outside, a welcome platter of cool tropical fruits was placed before me, and I couldn’t help but smile. I was on my private white sand beach in my private luxury cabana. There were no noisy tourists and no crowds. They were outside the gates in the main park. Here there was peace and tranquillity.

Ah…sigh; it was the most relaxed I had been in a long time. As the condensation on the tall welcome cocktail glass gathered, its cool sweetness was perfect. Heavenly. This is what luxury travel is all about.
I watched parents walking down the wide stairs into the Caribbean for a swim. Others reclined on pristine padded white recliners, sipping cold drinks, while their children were close by in Chankanaab, happy as can be and fully entertained. Visitors to the park, one of Cozumel’s largest, can enjoy ziplining, watching a free sea lion show, or heading out on a guided snorkel tour.
Instead of rushing around to take part in jam-packed activities, we relaxed in the newly opened The Cabana Beach. This magical place was built as a luxury travel experience to add a little peace in your life while you visit the island. Complete with full access day passes to Chankanaab, the whole family is happily spending the day with or without as much adventure as they want.
Swim with dolphins, tick. Wander through botanical gardens, cenotes and archeological walks, tick. Snorkel in the marine park amongst the colourful sea life, tick. Or, choose to laze the day away sipping cool beverages and book a massage right on the wide, private beach, tick.

Enjoy your own private postcard-perfect pristine white sand beach right on the ocean. Its clear waters beckon you into their sargassum free (a problematic seaweed) waters. With two-lane-wide stairs leading straight into the ocean, you can sit awhile or take a dip and cool off.
Food and Drink
Shortly after arriving, a welcome fruit platter is brought to your cabana. Full of cool fresh tropical fruits, it’s just the thing to start your day off right. Sweet grapes, tangy kiwi, and juicy melon complement your welcome drink of choice. It can be a giant margarita or fresh hand-squeezed lemonade. Alcoholic or non-alcoholic, it’s whatever you want. A smiling staff member will bring it to you while you settle in.

For the rest of the day, you have personalised service. Staff brings all of your food and drink needs right to your cabana, so you don’t have to get up from relaxing. Remember, this is a luxury travel experience.
Food choices abound, catering to every dietary requirement. It’s vegan and vegetarian-friendly, with wraps, amazing black bean lettuce tacos, pizza, hummus, and more.
But you are in Mexico so traditional Mexican cuisine is right at your fingertips. Choose from fresh from the sea ceviches, spicy tuna tostadas, or nachos with the works. Mexico’s famous cochinita (overnight slow-roasted pig) is also on the menu.
There’s also good old comfort food — burgers, pizza, and sliders. To top it all off, enjoy a gourmet hand made ice cream to cool off after a salty swim.
Drinks and cocktails are made to order. The most popular is a mango margarita (seen on the left, below). Its tropical sweetness is the perfect thing after spending time in the Caribbean sun. Mojitos, margaritas, and piña coladas are other popular choices. The servers are very friendly and will make anything you would like with imported ingredients. Everything you want for your relaxing day is at hand, catering to your individual taste.

In true luxury travel style, your day is how you want it to be. If you would like to venture out for a couple of hours to have a little adventure, The Cabana Beach comes with concierge services when you book.
Your Own Concierge
When I say luxury, I mean it. The day starts with concierge services before you even arrive. They will arrange anything you would like to ensure your day runs smoothly. Enjoy the best premium Tequila tasting tour on the island with Mexico’s oldest tequila house. Or, book a thrilling zipline over a unique open cenote where fresh water meets salt. Take a chocolate-making tour and make your own take-home chocolate from a centuries-old Mayan recipe.
Whatever you would like, they’ll help you organize. This is so everyone has their perfect day without missing out on anything. Luxury travel is all about doing or not doing anything you want. Laze around all day reading that book and sipping cocktails or fill it with adventure. There is a huge park full of wonder to explore right outside the gate.
Everyone’s Invited
Because this is the perfect place to relax, I went with friends. Everyone and anyone who wants a luxury experience is welcome. It’s perfect for couples, groups of friends, honeymooners, and anyone else that wants to get away for the day. People who have been to Cozumel several times before on cruises enjoy this escape from the other tourists.

It was perfect for us. We enjoyed swimming, relaxing, reading, and stuffing our face with great food. The days slipped by, and before we knew it, it was time to go home. By the time we left, I felt like I had been on holiday without the expensive airfares and shopping. All stress and tension had melted away on a Caribbean ocean breeze.
