If you’re looking for an island paradise, the North Shore of Kauai in Hawaii offers something for everyone from eco-adventure to luxurious dining and pampering. If outdoor adventure and beauty is your preference, you’ll find an amazing landscape featuring rugged mountains, pristine beaches and glorious ocean views. Hiking, kayaking, surfing, ziplining and snorkeling are just a few of the many adventures to choose from while on the North Shore. For those more inclined to creature comforts or land-based goodness, Princeville and Hanalei offer luxurious spas, top ranked golf courses and an array of delectable dining.
Dining and Sunset
Kauai is famous for fresh fish and fantastic local produce and rightfully so. Restaurants range from delicious food truck fare to superb five-star dining. I enjoyed Wahoo tacos at Kalypso Island Bar & Grill. This delightful and casual meal was a perfect ending to an active day snorkeling and taking in the breathtaking views of the Napali Coast. We also found The Dolphin to be a relaxing and tasty venue featuring an array of seafood, salads, poke and sushi. For a refreshing treat, Hawaiian-style shaved ice will not disappoint.
Given the extraordinary natural beauty of the island, sunsets are awe-inspiring. The St. Regis Princeville champagne sunset ceremony provides an elegant experience with remarkable views. For a more casual ambiance, Hanalei Pier is a great spot to enjoy remarkable sunset views.
Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor adventures and activities are plentiful. The Napali Coast State Wilderness Park is a haven for hikers and campers to enjoy the mountainous landscape and ocean views. Not for those faint-of-heart, the 11-mile Kalaui Trail traverses sea cliffs and drops to sea level at Kanakapi’ai and Kalalau beaches. Many choose to spend the night and complete the rigorous return trek the following day, however, it is important to note that permits are required to camp. One would be remiss not to take at least one ocean excursion while in the area. Our half day adventure from Hanalei Bay up the Napali Coast provided memories for a lifetime. Some of the many other ocean activities include scuba, SUP, kayaking, surfing and sailing.
While it’s been just a month since our return from Kauai, I’m still holding on to my ‘happy halo’ and look forward to returning to the island paradise soon.
