I recently experienced the ultimate travel irony. After traveling the globe, I recently ticked off a major bucket list item in my hometown. While not as large, the rows upon rows of crimson red, citrus orange, and bold yellow tulips are just as stunning. This story begins at one such festival.

I was able to bring my mom along for the ride. Without an International airfare cost, it was easy to swing by my mom’s house and pick her up for the event.

The Sandpiper Resort is located on Harrison Lake and each cabin has its own private patio with stunning views. The resort boasts a picturesque golf course as well as a restaurant. This local getaway was the perfect weekend vacation and all I had to do was drive for a couple of hours to achieve serenity.

For example, where I live in the West End of Vancouver is drastically different from Commercial Drive, a mere 15-20 minute drive, or Skytrain ride away. The vibe, the people, the restaurants, and the shops are all unique to that area. It also happens to be a great place to sample craft beer, which we don’t have in the West End.
Within a 1-2 hour drive from the city, there are a myriad of wineries waiting to be discovered. Even more in The Okanagan Valley, a 3-5 hour drive from Vancouver and perfect for a long weekend getaway.
