Durango, CO – A blanket of fresh powder cloaks the rugged mountains in Southwestern Colorado, creating Durango’s magical winter season! On the heels of another winter storm, TripAdvisor unveiled their list of the 13 Most Affordable US Ski Towns for Rentals in Winter 2015-16 and Durango, home of Purgatory Resort, holds the #6 spot on the national list.
“Durango delivers great outdoor adventures and good value any time of year, but we are especially affordable throughout the winter ski season,” says Bob Kunkel, Executive Director of the Durango Area Tourism Office. “We have terrific snow this season so it’s timely that once again we are a top destination on the TripAdvisor list of affordable vacations.”
“Ski towns” were dictated by the TripAdvisor Vacation Rental editorial staff and to be considered, locations needed to be reasonably close enough to a ski area. According to TripAdvisor, “We’ve rounded up the 13 most affordable US ski towns in Winter 2015-2016 if you rent a vacation home for your ski holiday. And they may surprise you. Sure, Utah’s Park City or Colorado’s Aspen get all the shine, but they don’t come cheap. Vacation rentals in these 13 ski spots have a manageable price tag, outstanding review scores and the slopes pack a serious (powder) punch.”
TripAdvisor analyzed the cost of vacation homes in all US ski destinations from Dec. 2015-Feb. 2016, and Durango makes the list (#6) as a most affordable rental town with an average weekly rate of $1140. The website mentions: “If you’re craving a Colorado escape this winter but don’t want to spend a fortune… then Durango is a first-grade alternative.”
